The Right Stuff - A Very NKOTB Surprise Birthday Party

Happy New Year! I hope you and yours enjoyed the holidays because I sure did! I had the opportunity to DJ a surprise 30th birthday party the end of December. This surprise birthday party definitely had The Right Stuff.
Brightly colored table cloths were laid out across the tables and New Kids on the Block balloons filled the place hall. I cued up "Cover Girl", the birthday girl's favorite song, and hit play as soon as the doors opened and she entered. The surprise went off without a hitch, which from what her husband told me is sometimes hard to do. Success. Once every one had a bite to eat New Kids on the Block trivia was played and prizes were to be won. To keep it with theme I mixed it with "Step by Step," "The Right Stuff," "Summertime," and "What Makes You Beautiful." I know, that last one is a One Direction song but, come on, all boy bands are the same right? Kidding. The birthday girl's uncle had purchased a set of key chain dolls for one of the trivia prizes that were One Direction band members that were renamed for members of New Kids on The Block. Thankfully the real Danny, Donnie, Jordan, Joey and Jon were gracious enough to spare some time from their busy schedules to pose for pictures all night. The dance floor filled shortly after that with a mix of the birthday girl's favorites from New Kids on the Block, Nickleback, Shinedown, and even a special request for some Saturday Night Fever. To say this party was a good time would have been the understatement of the year. With friends and family surrounding her it was soon time for her to make a wish, blow out the candles and open gifts. Did I mention the cake? In my line of business you see a lot of cakes, wedding cakes, anniversary cakes, what have you. But this cake, from Yum Bunnies Cakery, was the most amazing cake I have ever seen in my life. Completely fitting with the New Kids on The Block themed party, Jessa from Yum Bunnies captured every moment within New Kids on the Block's career! Trust me, it tastes as good as it looks! Working with the birthday girl's husband and her family during the party planning was exciting enough but to see the surprise on someone's face and everything to go as planned and beyond expectations is the rewarding part of this job. 3 Tips to Enhance Entertainment for Holiday Parties

It's beginning to look a lot like..... eh. I know what you're thinking. Summer is over! Where did it go? The holidays are closing in on us faster than the Blizzard of '78! You're thinking of what kind of stuffing goes with a deep fried turkey, where did you put last year's Christmas wrapping paper, or why don't I have a date for New Year's Eve yet!?!
Take a deep breath. Feel better? Good. We understand the holiday season is stressfull for everyone especially when trying to coordinate a few holiday parties in between and figuring out the entertainment for holiday parties. You want your holiday party to be the event of the season if not the year and here are 4 ways to improve entertainment for holiday parties.
Don't Burn The Cookies
Raise your hand if you are sick of cooking holiday meals for your family and then have to worry about making a dish or 10 for your holiday party. That's a lot of work. Why not hire a caterer for your holiday party? A caterer will work with you at your budget to provide scrumptious dishes for your guests to munch on as they socialize. These don't have to be full meals either, most caterers will provide appetizers or small tapas dishes if you request it. Leave the cooking to the pros once you set the menu. Who wants to clean up a kitchen after cooking all day anyway?
Setting The Theme
When it comes to entertainment for holiday parties that are also corporate events think about setting a theme. Would a Monte Carlo theme party work for New Year's Eve? Or for something festive how about Charles Dickens style Christmas Carolers as entertainment for a holiday party? Are you inviting couples with kids? Then you may want to get Santa Clause to come and listen to their wish lists. When setting the theme think about what is going to keep your guests engaged and entertained. Plus, adding a theme will add a natural flow and ambiance to the evening.
Music To Your Ears
What holiday party isn't complete without music? You don't want to have someone manding an iPod play list all night. What you should have is a DJ who can read the room and adapts to the party guests. A DJ who knows just the right version of Jingle Bells to play or knows when to cue up that perfect slow song as the countdown gets closer to midnight. You're going to want a DJ who can cater to you, listen to your ideas and help develop your themes, holiday wishes, styling, or whatever else may tickle your fancy. 4 Reasons a Cape Cod Wedding is Wonderful for Any Season

Ah autumn. In my opinion it's the most wonderful time of the year. The weather in New England is cooling off, pumpkin beer has never tasted better, football is back and wedding season continues on strong.
This past weekend I had the pleasure of making the drive to Falmouth to DJ a Cape Cod wedding. It was a great drive, the foliage is out in full effect in brilliant reds and warm oranges. A fall Cape Cod wedding, what could be more romantic right? Actually a Cape Cod wedding in any season is beautiful and I'll tell you why.
Spring: Spring is the perfect season for a Cape Cod wedding. As a DJ, I love to help coordinate music to an outdoor ceremony surrounded by blossoming flowers and as well as coordinating the indoor reception. Having a main set up as well as a laptop set up makes this easy for myself and less stressful for the bride and groom. An early evening/ late afternoon ceremony at an inn like The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth, allows guests and the wedding party to be comfortable before heading inside to dance the night away.
Summer: Who doesn't love a Cape Cod wedding on the beach? A ceremony can easily be set up for sunset on a beach as the weather begins to cool off in addition to hosting a nice outdoor tent reception. I had the pleasure of DJing an outdoor Cape Cod wedding last summer at Bourne Farm - Salt Pond Bird Sanctuaries. A perfect backdrop to the couple's wedding was a large rustic barn, complete with old Cape Cod charm.

So you have recently gotten engaged, or your son or daughter is about to have their Bar/Bat Mitzvah or graduation party and you want that perfect DJ to perfect the events mood and atmosphere.
Hiring a DJ is not as easy as one thinks. You want the best, someone that can not only be in tune with you and your needs but have everyone, including grandma, up on that dance floor by the end of the night.

Are the twenty five 13 year olds at your son's Bar Mitzvah running a muck in the lobby of the hotel outside the ballroom? Then you have the wrong DJ providing your guests with entertainment. While staying attentive to the person(s) of honor, the DJ will be able to wrangle the tweens into fun activities on the dance floor, or keep the bridesmaids up and on their feet while getting grandma and grandpa to enjoy the fun on the dance floor. A great DJ can round out any event by catering to the masses and treating everyone's ear buds to their favorite flavors.
4. Stress Free Planning - A bride and groom have a million things to plan before their big day and the entertainment is always towards the top of the list. Any great DJ will assist in taking the guess work out of what goes into reception planning. From ceremony, to cocktail hour, to dinner and dancing the right DJ can not only make suggestions based upon your taste in entertainment as well as offer up suggestions to what would best compliment your big day from music, to lighting suggestions.
5. Experience - Would you take your car to be repaired by an 18 year old kid with a monkey wrench and just graduated from auto repair school?
